Mother of three brutally murdered

The Green Island police are making steady progress in the murder of a woman and shooting injury of two others on Wednesday in the Grange community in Hanover.

The incident has marred the community, and by extension the parish, as detectives were kept busy Wednesday and Thursday combing the scene of another murder involving a couple, transport operator 56-year-old Balford 'Fire Bird' Gordon and his wife, 45-year-old Aletta Brown-Gordon, in Elgin Town.

Smith's brother, Orville Ferguson, told our news team that his sister is sadly missed, and according to him, she was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

"She was on her way home from work. She went to work for someone that day and she stopped to beg some water at a friend's house. She told the friend that she was too tired to come up for the water, so she should send someone to her with it and she sent her son."

THE STAR gathered that at about 9 p.m. Smith was on a bike taxi on Pel River Road and was about to be taken home when two armed men appeared on a motorcycle and opened fire on them, hitting all three persons.

Smith, our news team was told, died on the spot, while the other two injured men ran into nearby bushes. It is said that the shooters then left on a bike taxi belonging to one of the injured men.

Smith died leaving three children, ages seven, four and two.

When our news team contacted the Green Island police, the investigating officer told THE STAR that the investigation has reached a stage where someone can be charged and that statements have been collected.

Since news of his sister's death, Ferguson has been grieving and says Smith did not deserve this fatal ending.

"Mi cry profusely. She is a nice person, very nice and always smiling. She always had something nice to say," he said.
