Senior accused of sexually assaulting teenage relative
A 62-year-old man, who is charged with grievous sexual assault and sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16, was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 when he appeared in the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate court yesterday.
It is alleged that on May 29, David Mais sexually assaulted a 13-year-old relative while they were attending to a herd of goats in Mavis Bank, St Andrew.
Girl's underwear
It is reported the girl's mother made a 'routine check' of the girl's underwear and found what appeared to be semen. The girl later admitted that she was sexually assaulted by Mais.
Mais's lawyer, Peter Champagnie, asked the court to allow his client to live with his sister in St Thomas as his life could be in danger if he should return to Mavis Bank.
Mais is to report to the Morant Bay Police Station on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.
He is to return to court on August 6.
