Purse snatcher fined $100,000
Jermaine Scale was fined $100,000 for stealing a woman's purse which had $31,000. Scale pleaded guilty for larceny from a person when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday.
Scale admitted in court that he was travelling in a taxi with the complainant when he conspired with Doreen Bennett to rob the complainant of her purse whenever the vehicle stopped.
It is reported that when the complainant reached her destination, Scale grabbed her purse and ran. He was chased by the taxi driver and caught.
Bennett pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Before the presiding judge Chester Crooks fined Scale, he asked him why he committed the act.
"I know what I did was wrong. I was going through some phases," Scale said.
He was told to pay the fine or face six months in prison.
