Teens accused of stabbing schoolboy appear in court

Two teenagers, who allegedly stabbed another in his back multiple times on the last day of school in June, were brought before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court to answer charges of wounding with intent last Friday.

It is alleged that on the morning of June 19, Javani Darby and Rojay Robinson attacked a 15-year-old student at the gate of the Norman Manley High School. The student was stabbed in the back several times with a knife and screwdriver, causing him to be hospitalised for four days.

It is reported that Robinson and the 15-year-old boy had been in a feud for more than a year.

Robinson, 16, was arrested a day after the incident, but Darby, 19, left the island for The Cayman Islands for more than a month.

He was nabbed by police at the Norman Manley International Airport in late August after the mother of the injured boy heard that he was on a flight to Jamaica and informed the investigating officer.

The matter was delayed as the medical report of the injured boy was still outstanding.

Robinson's bail was extended while Darby was remanded in custody.

They are to return to court September 15.
