Shop owner murdered while cooking lunch
Scene of crime investigators were called to a murder scene yesterday in the vicinity of Sunlight Street, Maxfield Avenue, after a shop owner was gunned down at his business place in broad daylight.
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Jerome Wright of a Maxfield Avenue address.
Information reaching The STAR is that about 2:45 p.m., Wright was in his establishment preparing meals when he was approached by gunmen who entered and opened fire hitting him several times.
ONLOOKERS
The police were summoned to the area and assisted in taking the injured man to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
When our news team arrived on the scene, scored of onlookers had converged, some visibly shaken by the incident.
Motorists who traverse the usually busy corridor had to divert to other routes as the scene was cordoned off.
The area has been tense for some time, as warring factions have been exchanging gunfire.
Residents expressed shock at the latest killing.
A woman told THE STAR: "Di man nuh deserve fi dead. A him feed the community. A prepare him a prepare fi sell chicken back, burger, ice cream and dem ting deh inna the Friday ya and dem kill him. See all the flour still deh pan him hand."
The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) confirmed reports and said the investigation was ongoing.
The Half-Way Tree police are investigating.
