Cursed highway? - Frequent crashes raise questions about Mandela
Yesterday's fatal crash along the Mandela Highway has led to claims that the stretch of road is cursed.
The five-vehicle collision claimed the life of a woman and resulted in injury of several others.
It was the second multiple-vehicle collision on the highway in a 48-hour period.
Yesterday's accident involved a hearse, which was part of a funeral procession, as well as a garbage truck.
One of the workers on the highway told THE STAR: "Every day accident or something happen on this stretch. Last week, a six vehicles. Sometime people just a drive and run in the water barriers. Car, bus and truck a bruck down. When me say every day, a every day drama out here. People say out yah curse."
'PEOPLE A SUFFER'
A female motorist told THE STAR: "Out yah must curse. Every day suh? No, man. Dem need fi hurry up and done build this highway. Every day is something else. People a suffer. When a nuh death, a some serious injuries people affi go live with."
The Ferry police also told our news team that accidents are becoming more frequent and motorists are being advised to drive with caution and obey the signs placed along the roadway.
