Thief drops pants to avoid arrest

June 18, 2018

A chain thief who dropped his pants pretending he was taking a dump found himself with the messy end of the stick after he was arrested and charged with larceny from the person.

A judge in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court last Friday heard that Marlon McKenzie saw the complainant, who was seated in a car, wearing his gold chain and decided to steal it. McKenzie allegedly walked up to the car, grabbed the chain from the complainant's neck and ran.

GAVE CHASE

The complainant alerted a police team about what had transpired and they gave chase. The chain grabber, in trying to elude the police and his victim, went to an area and pretended that he was defecating. He was held by the police and charged.

"Your Honour, I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever do it again," McKenzie said as he pleaded guilty to the charges in court.

He was ordered remanded in custody by Judge Broderick Smith. The judge also requested his criminal records and ordered that his fingerprints be taken.

McKenzie is to return to court on July 13 for sentencing.
