The police are confirming that another man is in custody following a fatal shooting incident in Irish Town, St Andrew, last Friday.

Head of the St Andrew North Police Division, Senior Superintendent Aaron Fletcher, told THE STAR yesterday that the man went to the Gordon Town Police Station, where he was taken into custody. Fletcher said the man in custody is suspected to be the other assailant in an attempted robbery on Irish Town Road, which resulted in the death of 30-year old Steven Brown.

Brown was shot dead by an off-duty policeman. However, Fletcher indicated that the man in custody has not yet been charged.

Not being charged yet

"At this time he is not being charged yet but there is a possibility he may be charged in short order. He may or may not be charged in short order but as we speak now, he has not yet been charged. The investigators are dotting the 'I's' and crossing the 'T's', " he said.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe in the shooting death of Brown. According to the INDECOM, the policeman reported that about 2:45 p.m., he was travelling along the roadway when two men allegedly stepped into the road and demanded money and his vehicle. It is being further alleged that the cop indicated that at least one of the men was armed. INDECOM says the policeman fired one shot from his service Glock pistol, drove off and reported the matter to the Gordon Town police.
