The 54 patients at the Trelawny Infirmary have been relocated amid Hurricane Beryl.

Mayor of Falmouth Collen Gager says they have been moved to Hague Primary School.

Gager disclosed that 42 shelters are activated in the parish.

Meanwhile, the mayor said he is concerned that the homeless have refused to go to shelters.

"We have been trying to show them how unsafe it is for them to remain on the streets during the hurricane. This has fallen on deaf ears. We might just have to get the police involved to forcefully remove them," Gager said.

In the meantime, the mayor is keeping his fingers crossed that the hurricane does not badly affect yam farmers in South Trelawny.

"You know how important yam farming is for the area. Any blowing down of yam sticks could be disastrous for yam farmers."
