The National Water Commission (NWC) says it is working diligently to restore regular water supply to its customers, noting the parish-wide power outage in Portland and St Thomas is affecting all its facilities, as is the case for sections of most southern parishes.

The NWC says it is currently undertaking a critical assessment of all potable water supply systems to facilitate the earliest resumption to full operations.

It noted that some facilities remain inaccessible due to blocked roadways, power outages, and dislocated pipelines.

Across St Ann, St Mary and Portland, 44 NWC water systems are out.

Some 30 are out of service across Kingston and St Andrew.

St Thomas -14, St Catherine – 13, Clarendon – 16, Manchester – 9, St Elizabeth – 3, St James – 16, Trelawny – 7 and 13 across Hanover and Westmoreland.

The NWC says it is working closely with the Jamaica Public Service Company, the National Works Agency, municipal corporations, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, and other partner entities, to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.

For the interim, the company has also mobilized the use of generators for its major systems to restart, or continue operations.
