The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is reporting that 70 people from various sections of Old Harbour Bay in St Catherine have been evacuated amid the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

In a post on social media platform X, ODPEM said the police in the St Catherine South Division spearheaded the process and have transported the residents to Old Harbour High School, the designated shelter for the area.

Old Harbour is a mostly residential town in southwest St Catherine.

The southern section of the island is expected to be significantly impacted by the still dangerous category 4 storm.

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica, in its 11 a.m. bulletin, said Beryl was forecast to pass near or over the island's southern coastline, from east to west, between noon and 8:00 p.m. today.
