Artiste fatally stabbed in dispute over female

The Westmoreland police are in pursuit of a man who stabbed to death dancehall artiste Ricardo 'Bastic' Patterson after the two were involved in a dispute over a female at the Bourbon Beach in Negril yesterday.

The Negil police report that about 1:30 a.m. Bastic was on the beach on Norman Manley Boulevard, when a man attacked him with a knife. He was stabbed multiple times and rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Patterson's attacker escaped in a motor car.

Westmoreland top cop, Senior Superintendent David White, said the police know the suspect. "The police are pursuing that individual," White said.

Several members of the entertainment fraternity have expressed sadness and condolences upon hearing of the entertainer's demise.

Tactical told THE WEEKEND STAR: "Jah know Bastic is a jovial yute, dem man deh eva a laugh. It set a way cause is a free spirit youth and me feel it. A just last week him link mi and tell mi him ina di country."

Big Wayne said: "Bastic a jovial yute. A good yute, me and him all do song. The music fraternity hurt fi know him gone like that, talented artiste weh can sing and deejay. Mi hurt from mi get the news and hear weh the cause."

Bastic was known for singles Live My Life, Lovely Day, featuring Chi Ching Ching, Summer Shorts, featuring Big Wayne and Richest Set A Gal.
