A charity event has been planned for Niko Chromatic as his family and friends seek to throw one final effort behind raising funds for his well-needed surgery.

The disc jock was diagnosed with renal failure in 2015 and needs life-saving surgery costing US$60,000 (J$7.6 million).

A GoFundMe page created in 2015 to assist with the fundraising effort has amassed just over US$23,000.

Having seen the contributions slow down significantly, Niko's family and friends decided to raise the funds through a dancehall event.

Set for November 18, the event dubbed 'Dancehall with a Cause', is slated to take place at the Triple Century car park, formerly known as St Lucia car park in New Kingston.

At $1,000 per patron for admission, Kimberley Mais, Niko's girlfriend, is urging Jamaicans to support the event. Mais said despite some "down days", Niko is in good spirits.

"We've been seeing a few specialists about his condition, he's on his medication to ensure that he's fit for surgery when the time comes and he's doing better," she said.

Mais said Niko is confident things will end positively for him.

"Since we came out, we have received overwhelming support and we are extremely grateful. Everything is becoming a bit easier, and I believe a breakthrough is coming. I dreamt about it," she said.
