Raunchy Spice rocks Jamrock cruise

With the Wel-come to Jamrock cruise being largely a reggae show, dancehall artiste Spice was hesitant about being her usual raunchy self as she prepared to perform on the event for the first time.

The deejay, who is usually comfortable in her own skin, told THE WEEKEND STAR that at one point she thought about dropping Spice from the set, and bringing out Grace Hamilton - her softer, more wholesome side. In the end, she decided on being Spice.

"When I was coming here, I was thinking about bringing Grace on stage because I was thinking about the type of

audience that I heard about. But when I came on stage I decided to be Spice because, at the end of the day, I have my authentic fans who were going to be disappointed if I held back and nuh gwaan wid di things dem," she said.

"That paid off really well because I could see everyone enjoying themselves. There was a 59-year-old lady who came on stage, and she was whining and brucking out. How could I deny the people what they want?"

The deejay couldn't have been more on target, as guests practically went wild while the entertainer and her dancers were on stage. The audience was totally captivated as the queen of stage did what she did best, engaging them every step of the way and making them feel a part of her act.

She was raw and unfiltered as she delivered hit after hit, completely mesmerising her adoring fans. The people sang along to every line as she gave them songs including Needle Eye, Sheet, Indicator and Jim Screechie. The crowd was particularly impressed as the deejay incorporated songs from Vybz Kartel into a tribute song of her own. 'Repping' Gaza all the way, Spice received a stamp of approval from guests.

While Spice commanded the stage as she usually does, her dancers were not to be outdone. With a few acrobatic flips and spins on their heads, dancers TC and Danger thrilled the crowd almost as much as Spice.
