The Bob Marley Museum has refused to comment on a new story surrounding the death of reggae legend Bob Marley that has been making the rounds on social media over the past few days.

A news report on Your News Wire details an alleged confession from former US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent, Bill Oxley, in which he admitted to injecting Bob Marley with a cancer virus, which eventually killed the singer.

However, when THE STAR contacted the Bob Marley Museum, Lecia Gaye Taylor that said the group is aware of the story but had no comment on the report.

According to the article, Oxley, a 79-year-old retired officer of the CIA, who had mere weeks to live, confessed to committing approximately 17 assassinations for the US government between 1974 and 1985. Marley was allegedly among the 17.

CANCER VIRUS

The article states that the shooting incident which took place at Marley's residence on Hope Road in 1976 was CIA instructed, and when that attempt was unsuccessful, Oxley finished the job by injecting Marley with cancer.

"I gave him a pair of Converse All-stars, size 10. When he tried on the right shoe, he screamed out 'OUUUCH.' That was it," Oxley is quoted as saying in the article. "His life was over right there and then. The nail in the shoe was tainted with cancer viruses and bacteria. If it pierced his skin, which it did, it was goodnight nurse."

The story started spreading like wildfire, and very soon many persons were reposting the story. It got so much traction that it even caught the attention of R&B singer Chris Brown and dancehall artiste Spragga Benz. Both reposted the story on their Instagram pages. While Chris Brown's post was seemingly questioning the story and seeking some clarification from his followers, Spragga Benz seemed to be more believing.

Conspiracy theorists

In his post the deejay said: "So him dead already or no (enquiring about Oxley's status). If not, how dem naa investigate him superiors. Him mus did a follow orders right?"

A debate ensued in the comments section as users sought to make sense of the story. Some believed Marley died at the hands of the CIA, while others believe the story was made up by conspiracy theorists.

Although the story has quotes attributed to Oxley, there has been no other story from any reputable news source to confirm that of Your News Wire.

THE STAR has since discovered that the website has a reputation of publishing fake news, including confessions from CIA agents on their deathbeds.

Diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma in 1977, Marley died on May 11, 1981 in Miami at age 36.
