UK-based producer finds Billboard success with Jamaican artiste

UK-based DJ/producer Epik Jones is today celebrating relative success for his work on dancehall artiste Xyclone's Billboard-charting reggae album.

Xyclone's album, 2777 Waterford Parkway, recently debuted at number four on the prestigious chart and is Xyclone's second project to receive chart success.

The album also charted on iTunes and is number five in the UK and Sweden. Epik Jones is credited for his work on songs such as Mek It Clap and The Party featuring Kim Kelly.

Speaking to The WEEKEND STAR about what the album's success means for him, Jones expressed that having collaborated with many artistes before, he has had to be persistent about his work to see this kind of success.

"It's phenomenal to see what persistence and a formula can do," he said. "I have done many songs with artistes prior to this, and I must say, success is a nice feeling. I charted in Ghana with the song Cash Life by Shatta Wale, but this is huge for me. This album is doing well on the charts, and if not that, then what are we working for? I am very grateful."

Having dropped several projects as a producer, Epik Jones, who is also a much-sought-after DJ in the UK, said he understands the level of work that goes into making a quality hit record.

He encouraged fellow producers to put in the work needed to get the recognition they deserve.

"This Billboard charting shows that the quality and standard of an album must be maintained to be accepted by one of the world's greatest music platforms," he said. "It strengthens me towards doing a greater work in the future and should encourage other artistes to also put in the necessary work."

The producer is working on a rhythm compilation album titled Cool Breeze, which will feature several recording artistes based in Jamaica and overseas.

He is planning promotional tours and will visit countries such as France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland.

He will also be making stops in Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile and Argentina. The tour is expected to get under way in July.
