Jayxyrus finding his voice
Buoyed by the traction from his latest single, True Face, St Catherine-based entertainer David 'Jayxyrus' Green said that his collaborations with Code 1 Production have made a positive impact for 2024.
The Spanish Town-born entertainer told THE STAR that he started to get real rewards having signed with the Alrick Henry-led company.
"Since I started under this production, we have done videos for them. It inspires me to know that my efforts are not in vain," Green said. The partnership has yielded songs such as Don Inna Di Place, Nobody like you, and Firm and strong.
"Three of the songs, including True Face, have videos to accompany the songs," Jayxyrus said. Henry said that it was Jayxyrus' talent which drew his attention.
"Having reasoned with him, it was revealed that he needs help to maximise his musical talent, and the rest is history," Henry said. Jayxyrus said it was a song titled Mama How Yu Gone that started his musical journey.
"That wasn't a crowd favourite and didn't bring financial success, but it helped me to get closure on the matter," Jayxyrus said. Jayxyrus, who is the father of three, said his greatest inspiration in music comes from veteran deejay Burru Banton.
"I always listen to his style and find it refreshing, so while my style is different, he is the inspiration," he said.
The entertainer said that he writes his own lyrics, which are coloured by real-life situations. He described his songs as being relevant and uplifting. Jayxyrus said that he attended Lucky Valley Primary School and later Vere Technical High School. Outside of the studio, he is also a trained welder.
He said that having been stung by the music bug 16 years ago, his objective is to continue doing good music, seek collaborations with other artistes, and build a musical empire.
