As he begins his preparations for the 2025 season, Jamaican Olympian Carey McLeod says he will be making his return to contesting both the long jump and triple jump events.

Throughout last year, he had been competing exclusively in the long jump, with his last triple jump appearance being back in June 2023.

McLeod had also competed in both events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games.

"I think one thing that I'll be doing differently this year is that I want to go back to doing a lot more triple jump," he told STAR Sports at the RJRGLEANER Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Award ceremony on Friday night at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

"If you remember back in Tokyo [Olympics], I was one of the few guys in the world that was doing long jump and triple jump. That just shows that I am above doing just one event so I want to go back to doing both and challenge myself," the former Kingston College athlete stated.

McLeod explained that the change comes as he felt he has become complacent through competing in the long jump only.

The Jamaican won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships, before winning his first ever national title. However, he had placed 12th over at the Paris Olympic Games.

Despite the disappointment from the Olympics, he says he has no regrets about last year.

"I think I have gotten kind of complacent just doing long jump by itself so that is something I have been thinking about doing, it's something I will be working on coming into this 2025 season," he explained.

"I look back on last year and there were a lot of great moments. Honestly, I can't say there were any moments that I would regret. Everything happens for a reason and the season played out how it played out. There is nothing I can complain about. I'm happy and I've just got to smile and give God thanks, regardless of what happened."

McLeod stated he will be targeting his life dream of medalling at the World Championships, having already secured his first medal at the World Indoors.

"I have already secured what I wanted in terms of what I had on my list - that was Indoors, I got that out the way. So for me now, it is now trying to add something for outdoors to the collection."
