Sister’s boyfriend pressuring her for sex

October 23, 2024

Dear Pastor,

I am 18 years old and I am living with my mother and stepfather. I have one sister, who is also living here with us.

I have one brother, but he is living with our father, who lives with another woman. My brother is studying to become a mechanical engineer. He works very hard. He protects us. My father takes very good care of us.

My father bought my brother a car to take us around, so we do not have to struggle on the bus to get to school, or to and from work. But he behaves as if he is our boss. Because he is older, he tries to push us around. But we love him dearly, and he loves us. We do not have to quarrel or fuss.

My sister is having some problems with her boyfriend. He wants her to have sex with him because they have been friends for about two years. But my sister is holding out on him, so he has threatened her by telling her that he cannot wait any longer. She told him to go. Do you think that it was right for her to tell him so? That is what our father told us as girls - we should tell boys to leave and not to come back when they pressure us to go to bed with them. What do you say is the right approach to take?

S.T.

Dear S.T.,

No man should force a woman to have sexual intercourse with him. She has a right to agree or disagree.

Your father has tried to counsel you and your sister in the correct way. So if this guy insists that your sister should have sex with him, she should end the relationship because it is likely that he may try to rape her.
