Landlady caught us having sex

November 01, 2024

Dear Pastor,

This is the first time I am writing to you, but I have been reading your column from I started dating.

I have found your column to be very helpful. My boyfriend takes your side, but most times we reason out matters together. I have been a Christian for six years. When my boyfriend and I started to date, I was determined to change him. I found out from reading your column that I should accept him as he is, and not try to change him. I thought that if he loves me, he would change to please me. One day I saw in your column that it is not easy to change a man or for a man to change a woman. I told myself that I would love to be the perfect wife, and my fiance told me that there is no perfect woman.

One day my landlady caught us having sex. It was not something that should have happened. Both of us were suppose to be studying and we got carried away. When I wanted to stop, he wanted more. We had one round of sex and that one round became two. Then we heard a knock on our door; it was our landlord wanting to find out if we were not aware of the time of day. We were so embarrassed. We apologised to her and I took the blame.

The landlady said that what she saw us doing was not something she would condemn us for, but we should be careful not to allow the temptations of the flesh to overcome us in the future, and we should always keep our doors locked. I will never forget that our landlady did not condemn us. She only told us that we are beautiful young people, but we should always wear clothes when we are having sex, because we may never know when someone may call on us, and it might not be possible to put on clothes immediately. We should try not to expose ourselves to strangers, because my body belongs to my man and his body belongs to me.

My fiance and I are now married and we are still living at the same place with the same landlady. We have become great friends. We have never forgot the experience we had and how careless we were at her house. But these people are our dear friends.

S.G.

Dear S.G.,

I hope that you will remain grateful to your landlady. She treated you very well and was very good to you and your husband.
