My son likes reading porn

January 25, 2021

Dear Pastor,

We have three children. Our first child is a boy. He is now in his mid-teens and he likes to read adult books. I am very worried as his mother. I believe that these books will pervert him.

His father disagrees with me. I took away a couple of the books. But he went and got similar ones. I have made enough fuss in the house. I have partly talked to my pastor about it and my pastor said that my husband is so wrong. Boys should not be allowed to read those type of books.

My son gets gratification from reading these books and has even tried to draw pictures of some of these girls in the books. Since I spoke to my pastor about it, my son does not want to go back to church because he said the pastor will always be preaching about him and his father sees nothing wrong in his refusal to go. This boy is going to follow in his father's footsteps because his father does not go to church. He does very well in school and his teacher says he does not give any trouble.

On his 16th birthday, we had a small party for him at the house and two of his girlfriends almost fought over him and I had to get involved in that. He told them that if they would be disrespectful in his parents' house, he would not speak to them anymore. I don't know what to do with this boy. I wouldn't even allow him among my girlfriends. They all like him and I don't trust some of them, especially my hairdresser. So give me some of your advice.

Initials Withheld,

Dear Writer,

I think that you have to understand that all children, especially boys, like to read books on sex and in these modern days they search the Internet. It does not make any sense for parents to condemn their sons for looking at these sites or reading books that people call pornography.

It does not make sense for you to try and take them away. You have done so, and he went and got more. He does not need anybody to condemn him. What he needs his guidance. And from what you said, your minister did not give him guidance. He probably feels that your minister condemns him so he resents your minister. He will change; go easy on him.
