Oil spill causes fatal crash in Trelawny - Police

A motorcyclist was killed in Trelawny yesterday by a truck that veered off the roadway after driving through an oil spill, a police report has revealed.

His name has not been released.

He is one of two motorcyclists killed in separate crashes in a 12-hour span.

The police report that in the first crash, which occurred about 7:30 a.m., an Isuzu truck was travelling east along the Coopers Pen main road towards Duncans when the driver lost control after driving through an oil spill.

The truck reportedly veered to the right of the roadway before crashing into the 2024 Stinga motorcycle with no registration plate affixed.

The second motorcyclist was killed along the Discovery Bay main road in St Ann about 7:45 p.m.

According to a police report, the motorcyclist swerved to avoid a pothole in the middle of the left lane when he collided with a Mercedes Benz motor car.

Since the start of the year, 220 people have died in crashes, a 10 per cent decrease year on year.
